About this tool:

Agencies are so used to looking for employees who are a “culture fit,” but to make our work better, we need to make hires who add to our agency culture and bring new perspectives. That’s why Guided by Good developed Culture Add, Culture Fit training that teaches interviewers how to remove unconscious bias throughout the hiring process.

“Culture Fit”

is defined as someone who reflects and is able to adapt to the core beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that make up your organization.

“Culture Add”

reflects the company’s values and professional ethics, and an aspect of diverse opinions, experiences, and specialized skills.

Unconscious Bias

Unconscious biases are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness.

We train our employees to uncover their unconscious biases and teach them to ask behavioral-based interview questions that help remove bias from the interview process.

Here’s a resource to help uncover implicit biases around certain topics based on the strength of associations between concepts and evaluations.

Questions to ask:
  • Are we considering candidates that offer a dimension that our culture might be missing?
  • Are we considering candidates that bring a viewpoint or context we may be missing?
  • Are we thinking about who is at the table when decisions are being made or work is being presented?

Creative Edition:

REVIEWING PORTFOLIOS WITH LESS BIAS

We introduced a creative-focused version of the training that helps the creative department learn to recognize the bias and subjectivity they could be using when reviewing applicants’ portfolios.
